Christian Tamburr Quintet featuring special guest Dominick Farinacci
Saturday, August 13, 2011 | Bella Mia Stage | 6pm
Christian Tamburr is accomplished on the piano and trapset as well as world and orchestral percussion. However, his true talent is exhibited on his instrument of choice, the vibraphone—performances that earned him Downbeat Magazine’s "Outstanding Solo Jazz Performer" award. Christian currently leads the acclaimed Christian Tamburr Quartet, a four-piece acoustic jazz group.
Christian began performing at the age of 14 and, now 31, he has worked and toured with many jazz legends including Dave Brubeck, Michael Feinstein, Kenny Barron, Billy Drummond, Matt Wilson, Clark Terry, James Moody, Benny Green, Bucky Pizarelli, Kevin Mahogany, Nicolas Payton, Art Van Damm, Slide Hampton, Dick Hyman, Eric Marienthal, Marcus Printup, and Bunky Green.
Over the past 7 years, Christian and his Quartet has performed at such venues as Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, The Blue Note, Small’s Jazz Club, Yoshi’s, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the Ravinia Jazz Residence in Chicago and various Jazz Cruises around the world. In 2008 and 2009 the quartet traveled to Japan performing at festivals and clubs throughout the country.
When special guest artist Dominick Farinacci was only 17 years old, Wynton Marsalis invited him to perform on a special PBS broadcast of Live from Lincoln Center. Dominick then became one of only 18 artists invited to be a part of the inaugural class of the Jazz Studies Program at The Juilliard School. While still at Juilliard, he signed 7-CD recording contract with a Japanese label that sky-rocketed his career throughout Japan. He has continued to make a name for himself internationally, headlining the major clubs and festivals. Farinacci will release Dawn of Goodbye, his 2nd U.S. CD, in July 2011.
