Psychedelic soul & heavy funk band Monophonics already have a loyal Bay Area following, but they have also become a national draw, bringing their “rowdy, hard-hitting” stage show to festivals including High Sierra, Joshua Tree, Blacksheep Family Reunion, Portland Waterfront Blues and Wakarusa, along with an annual slot at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Founded in 2005 with an instrumental lineup – saxophone, trumpet, guitar, bass and drums – Monophonics recently added vocals and keyboards, bringing a whole new dimension to their sound (which pays homage to the soul and funk greats of the 60s and 70s such as Sly & the Family Stone, George Clinton and, of course, James Brown). The band’s new record, In Your Brain, was released this past May on Ubiquity Records.
