Dr. Gone & Serious Condition featuring Jasmine Joshua started off as a Blues band, but is impossible to place them under just one label. The band’s sound revolves around Blues, Rock, and Jazz, but the players themselves draw on influences from other music such as Folk, Country, Classical, and even musical theater.
Doc's musical background is in Blues, Rock and Folk-rock. He lends his guitar and some vocals to the band. Tony Lacy-Thompson played for British Blues and Rock bands before coming to California. Here in the States he has also played in stage bands and taught guitar lessons. Joe Hartnett, besides being a brilliant mouth-harpist, is one of the best pedal-steel players in the area. Steve Ackley’s background is in Jazz and Classical. He grew up playing bass and, in the 1980s, he began to play Jazz and has performed in Monterey and Santa Cruz. John Lovell is a Rock and Blues enthusiast and began playing drums at the age of 10. David Gonzales is steeped in Rock, Blues and Jazz; playing his tenor saxophone not only for Serious Condition, but also for The Groove Kings, a band local to Santa Cruz. Jasmine’s vocal prowess ranges from Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, and Rock, to Madrigal and Classical.
